This is How Erik Ten Hag could line up With Frenkie de Jong Transfer Window 2023
Erik ten Hag has finally secured his top transfer target, but how will Frenkie de Jong Transfer fit into Manchester United‘s midfield next season?
Manchester United have finally made headway in their long-running pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s Transfer, allowing Erik ten Hag to start thinking about next season.
United has agreed on an initial fee of £56 million for De Jong, which could rise to £70 million with add-ons.
After reaching an agreement with United, the 25-year-old midfielder is expected to sign a five-year contract worth £250,000 per week at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag, who personally advocated for De Jong’s arrival, is pleased with the news. Following the departures of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, he made his former Ajax player the club’s top transfer target.
De Jong will be the focal point of Ten Hag’s midfield, but how he fits into the team remains to be seen. The 52-year-old only began training at Carrington on Monday and will need more time to run the rule over his squad.
We look at the ways Ten Hag could use De Jong in a new-look United midfield in 2022/23.
The Way Man United could line up With Frenkie de Jong Transfer

Ten Hag’s five years at Ajax mean that 4-3-3 will always be mentioned as a possible formation, despite his belief that formations shape players rather than the other way around. De Jong, for one, prefers to be at the center of attention, as he did with the Netherlands under former United manager Louis van Gaal.

“Here in the national team, I have a better position,” he explained during the most recent round of Nations League matches. “I prefer to be the first player to receive the ball from defenders. In the national team, I play differently than in Barca.”
These remarks were made in part because of Sergio Busquets’ role at Barcelona. At Camp Nou, the veteran Spaniard is the deep-lying midfielder, so De Jong plays slightly further forward. It might make sense for him to start at the base of a midfield three at United.

With the departures of Pogba, Matic, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata, United are currently lacking options in the middle of the park. However, Donny van de Beek, who has returned from a loan spell at Everton, Fred, and Scott McTominay are all available for central midfield positions, while youngsters James Garner and Hannibal Mejbri will be looking to impress in pre-season.
In front of De Jong, a pairing of Van de Beek, a Ten Hag favorite from his time at Ajax, and McTominay, who The Times says is ‘pivotal’ to the new manager’s plans, is conceivable. As an alternative to Bruno Fernandes, United has also offered a contract to Christian Eriksen, who would fit in nicely as a forward-thinking midfielder.
