Benzema update, Arteta wants £100m midfielder

Football FanCast brings you the latest Arsenal transfer round-up in the January window.

Despite just signing four players this summer, the Gunners splashed the cash to do so, dramatically strengthening their squad in the process. The last player to join the club this summer was goalkeeper David Raya, who made the move from west London side Brentford.

It seems a new forward is high on the agenda – particularly in light of Arsenal’s poor form at the turn of the year, but as recent reports have suggested, there are plenty of obstacles in getting someone in who is capable of revitalising the north Londoners’ title challenge, which may also impact on potential outgoings in N5. Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours:

Douglas Luiz – Arsenal: According to the Done Deal Show, Arsenal are keeping an eye on Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz.

Journalist Ben Jacobs stated: “If I was listing Arsenal targets right now, I would say Zubimendi and Luiz, 100% they would take them if they could and they would probably move for Ivan Toney if the price was right. That’s three big targets there and I wouldn’t rule out two midfielders coming in.”

The prospect of Declan Rice and £100m Douglas Luiz in the middle of midfield is mouthwatering for any neutral fan, let alone Arsenal fans, but with everyone worried after recent FFP sanctions, perhaps Arsenal won’t be splashing out until the summer.

Karim Benzema 2023

Karim Benzema – Al-Ittihad: TEAMtalk has claimed that Arsenal are considering a loan move for Karim Benzema.

Amid Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah’s goalscoring struggles this season, it comes as no surprise that Mikel Arteta has an interest in signing a striker of Benzema’s calibre this month.

Although, it won’t be easy, as the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United are also in the race for his signature.

Eddie Nketiah – Crystal Palace and other clubs: Fabrizio Romano has claimed that many clubs want Eddie Nketiah, not just Crystal Palace, as per Caught Offside.

He stated: ‘Not just Crystal Palace – many clubs are interested in Eddie Nketiah, but it’s not easy for Arsenal to find a striker on the market right now.’

The Gunners’ striker has featured 27 times this season, scoring six goals and laying on four assists. However, he hasn’t been a regular in the side in recent times and has only started in 50% of his Premier League games, so perhaps Mikel Arteta wants to raise some funds in order to bring in a new number nine this month.
