Phil Hay transfer hint, Farke eyes exciting duo

It feels like the summer transfer window only just closed, but now the crazy merry-go-round that is the January transfer window has already arrived.

For Leeds United, the summer window was a challenging period to navigate. At certain points, the situation was looking more than a little bleak, but some last-minute deals and some good work by Daniel Farke left the Whites in a much better position than many thought was possible.

After a stuttered start to their Championship campaign, they’ve settled into their new surroundings and currently lie firmly in promotion contention.

With the winter window now here, Football FanCast has gathered the latest transfer rumours about all the possible incomings and outgoings that you can expect at Elland Road this month.

Ben Davies – Tottenham Hotspur: According to The Athletic, the Whites have a speculative eye on potentially making a move for Spurs defender Ben Davies.

The Wales international has shown his ability to play across the backline, with the natural left-back also demonstrating his ability to play through the centre of late.

Davies has played a big role in Tottenham’s season amid their recent injury crisis at the back, having racked up 14 appearances in the Premier League alone (via Transfermarkt).

Leeds correspondent Phil Hay claimed that if Spurs do make some more additions at the back, Davies could perhaps become available.

However, seeing a 30-year-old who is still playing regular football for a top Premier League side move down to the Championship – or even a promoted side in the summer – feels incredibly unlikely.

Ryan Giles & Borna Barisic – Luton Town & Rangers: As per the same Athletic report, left-backs are clearly at the top of Daniel Farke’s agenda this month, with a further two believed to be on their radar.

Giles only joined Luton in the summer, however, it has not been the start to life in the Premier League he will have hoped for, with just five starts in the top flight to his name by the middle of January (via Transfermarkt).

Barisic has played more regularly for Rangers, but with the Glasgow giants reportedly keen to add at left-back themselves, it could open the door to the Croatian’s potential departure.

Charlie Cresswell: According to Leeds Live, Leeds have now rejected a number of bids to permanently sign 21-year-old defender Charlie Cresswell this month.

One of the clubs who are believed to have made a move for Cresswell this month is Millwall – the club he spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan with.

With the Whites believed to have set a £5m asking price on Cresswell this month, it is reported the likes of Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough have also lodged an interest.

And considering the youngster has played just 127 minutes of Championship football this season, perhaps a move away would be positive for all parties.
