The latest injury-time goals scored in the 2023-24 Premier League season

Stats showed that on average, the ball was only in play for 55 minutes in games last season, and that led the Premier League to take action this term.

The new initiative – which involves referees timing interruptions before restarts after a goal, substitutions, injuries and set pieces – has seen stoppage times increase dramatically throughout the leagues, with some matches even entering the 100th minute and beyond.

Football FanCast has decided to look at this year’s latest goals by listing every Premier League strike scored in or after the 95th minute this season.

Cole Palmer v Manchester City – 90+5 mins

12th November 2023: Chelsea 4-4 Manchester City

cole-palmer-chelsea

Chelsea struck late to earn a dramatic point against the reigning Premier League champions in one of the most entertaining games this season.

Rúben Dias hauled down Armando Broja in the box, resulting in a penalty kick, which former City winger Cole Palmer cooly converted in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

Palmer has impressed in West London since his £42.5m move in the summer and was awarded a first senior call-up to the England squad this month.

His 95th-minute penalty was his fourth league goal of the season.

27
Gabriel Martinelli v Crystal Palace – 90+5 mins

20th January 2024: Arsenal 5-0 Crystal PalaceGabriel-martinelli-Arsenal-premier-league

After a difficult run of four games without a win, the Gunners put three points firmly on the board with an emphatic win over their fellow Londoners, Crystal Palace.

And it was a return to the scoresheet for Gabriel Martinelli who has had his own issues for Arsenal this season as he struggles to match the standards he set for himself last season.

Arsenal’s title push has certainly taken a hit over the last few weeks, but the win against the Eagles kept them within arms length of the leaders Liverpool.

26
Luis Díaz v Luton Town – 90+5 mins

5th November 2023: Luton Town 1-1 Liverpool

luis-diaz-liverpool

Luton opened the scoring in the 80th minute of their clash with Liverpool after former Manchester United winger Tahith Chong completed a wonderfully worked counterattack with a sliding finish.

The Hatters seemed to be moments away from a monumental result in their history as fans geared up to celebrate a joyous victory against England’s most trophy-laden club.

But Luis Díaz’s 95th-minute leveller denied those celebrations, though most football fans would’ve been happy to see the Colombian on the scoresheet with the current circumstances surrounding his father.

A point for the visitors moved them above Arsenal into third whilst the hosts lifted themselves out of the drop zone.

25
Evan Ferguson v Luton Town – 90+5 mins

12th August 2023: Brighton and Hove Albion 4-1 Luton Town

evan-ferguson-brighton

Luton’s first match back in the top flight after a 31-year absence ended in a heavy defeat to the high-flying Seagulls.

Solly March opened the scoring in the 36th minute before João Pedro and Simon Adingra added a second and third to seal the three points.

Though Albion weren’t finished there, as Evan Ferguson netted a fourth goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time. The Republic of Ireland international turned in Pervis Estupiñán’s cross to open up his Premier League account for the season.

It capped off a wonderful performance from Roberto De Zerbi’s men, who will be eager to better last year’s sixth-placed finish.

24
Lucas Paqueta v Chelsea – 90+5 mins

20th August 2023: West Ham United 3-1 Chelsea

lucas-paqueta-west-ham-united

Matchweek 2 saw another late stoppage-time goal as Lucas Paqueta scored West Ham’s third in the fifth minute of added time.

The Brazilian netted a coolly-taken penalty to secure the victory against London rivals Chelsea as his side rose to sixth in the league table, whilst the Blues sunk to 15th without a win in their opening two games.

The fourth official indicated a minimum of six added minutes in this fixture.

23
Erling Haaland v Fulham – 90+5 mins

2nd September 2023: Manchester City 5-1 Fulham

erling-haaland-manchester-city

The treble-winners demolished the travelling Cottagers before the international break, and yet again, another goal was scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time. It’s almost becoming the norm!

The new initiative will be the catalyst for plenty of stoppage-time goals this term, and quite remarkably, a goal in the 95th minute may not be the last kick of the game nowadays as it has been in previous years.

This instance saw Erling Haaland score a very late goal to complete his second-half hat-trick and send his team back to the summit of the table, two points clear of their closest challengers.

22
Michael Olise v Manchester City – 90+5 mins

16th December 2023: Manchester City 2-2 Crystal Palace

michael-olise-crystal-palace-arsenal-transfer-gossip-edu-arteta-trossard

Crystal Palace pulled off an almighty comeback against the defending champions at the weekend, as they came from 2-0 down to level the tie at 2-2.

Jean-Philippe Mateta won a penalty in the dying embers of the game, which was slotted away calmly by Michael Olise after a rather nervy VAR check.

The Eagles currently sit in 15th position on 17 points, which seems them now eight points above the drop zone.

21
Christopher Nkunku v Wolverhampton Wanderers

24th December 2023: Wolves 2-1 Chelsea

christopher-nkunku-chelsea

Chelsea’s weird form continued as they were beaten 2-1 away at Molineux on Christmas Eve. Although, that is nothing to be frowned upon as the likes of Newcastle, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have all dropped points there.

Nevertheless, one positive to come out of the game was Christopher Nkunku’s performance. The Frenchman looked bright and showed moments of brilliance, including his header which was smartly done in the 96th minute.

20
Matheus Cunha v Crystal Palace – 90+6 mins

3rd September 2023: Crystal Palace 3-2 Wolves

matheus-cunha-wolves

Palace secured victory against the West Midlanders thanks to a second-half Odsonne Édouard brace.

But they were briefly made to sweat after former Atletico Madrid forward Matheus Cunha headed home a 96th-minute goal to half the deficit.

The win for the hosts took them up the seventh, whilst Wolves, who are being widely tipped to suffer relegation this season, remained in 15th, two points above the drop zone.

19
Declan Rice v Man United – 90+6 mins

3rd September 2023: Arsenal 3-1 Manchester United

declan-rice-arsenal

Perhaps one of the most dramatic moments of the season so far, largely due to the game’s profile, was Declan Rice’s 96th-minute winner against Arsenal’s bitter rivals Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford broke the deadlock in the 27th minute before Martin Odegaard levelled a minute later with a thumping finish past André Onana.

The two sides looked set to share the spoils until summer signing Rice bundled home a low effort from a corner, sending the Emirates into raptures.

However, despite his stoppage-time winner, the Gunners scored an even later goal minutes later, which we’ll get on to further down the list!

18
Joel Matip v Spurs – 90+6 mins

30th September 2023: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Liverpool

joël-matip-liverpool

Liverpool’s clash away at Spurs last weekend was littered with controversy, with two questionable Liverpool red cards and a wrongfully disallowed Luis Diaz goal.

The away side fought hard with nine men towards the dying embers of the match before Joël Matip turned home Pedro Porro’s cross to give Spurs a dramatic late victory.

The hosts continued their impressive start to the season as they moved into second, one point adrift of the league leaders Manchester City.

The Reds, meanwhile, were dealt their first defeat of the season in incredible circumstances.

17
Takehiro Tomiyasu v Sheffield United – 90+6 mins

28th October 2023: Arsenal 5-0 Sheffield United

takehiro-tomiyasu-arsenal

The Gunners inflicted a bruising defeat on relegation-threatened visitors Sheffield United, who were left rooted to the foot of the table on one point.

Eddie Nketiah took centre stage as he netted his first Premier League hat-trick to put the hosts in cruise control before Fábio Vieira and Takehiro Tomiyasu netted the fourth and fifth goals of the afternoon.

Tomiyasu’s 96th-minute strike was his first goal for the Gunners since arriving from Bologna just over two years ago and ranks among one of the latest scored in the Premier League this term.

16
Beto v Newcastle United – 90+6 mins

7th December 2023: Everton 3-0 Newcastle United

beto-everton-dominic-calvert-lewin-dyche-dwight-mcneil-injury-premier-league

The Toffees put in a dominant display against a Newcastle side that is struggling at this moment in time, but take nothing away from the sheer quality that Everton showed on the night.

It was a late goal flurry from Sean Dyche’s men that downed the Magpies, with Dwight McNeil starting the rout, which was followed by Abdoulaye Doucoure doubling the Toffees lead, and that then set the stage for Beto to grab a ninety-sixth minute goal to put the cherry on top.

Interestingly, had Everton not had to deal with the 10 point deduction, they would actually be sitting three points off Europe at the time of writing this, which is remarkable and shows just how well Dyche has his troops playing at Goodison Park.

15
Bryan Mbeumo v Chelsea – 90+6 mins

28th October 2023: Chelsea 0-2 Brentford

bryan-mbeumo-brentford

The visiting Bees soaked up Chelsea’s pressure for much of this affair and dealt two sucker-punches to secure victory at Stamford Bridge.

Ethan Pinnock opened the scoring with a towering header at the back post before Bryan Mbeumo completed a breakaway move in the dying embers of the game to make sure of the three points.

Chelsea shot-stopper Robert Sánchez was up for a corner and couldn’t get back quick enough to prevent the Brentford forward from stroking home into an empty net.

Thomas Frank’s side moved up into 10th, replacing the Blues, who dropped down to 11th following another defeat for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

14
Declan Rice v Luton Town – 90+7 mins

5th December 2023: Luton Town 3-4 Arsenal

declan-rice-arsenal

Arsenal left it late to secure victory at Luton Town’s Kenilworth Road on Wednesday evening, as they fought back from 3-2 down to win in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

Declan Rice got on the end of Martin Ødegaard’s teasing cross to head home past the helpless Luton shot-stopper, Thomas Kaminski.

Rice has proved to be a tremendous signing for the Gunners since completing a £105m move from West Ham United in the summer and now features twice on this list.

The England international seems to be getting into a habit of scoring late goals, which is certainly a good one to have as his side continue their surge towards a long-awaited Premier League title.

Victory for Arsenal put them five points clear at the summit of the league table, as it stood.

13
Oli McBurnie v Bournemouth – 90+7 mins

25th November 2023: Sheffield United 1-3 Bournemouth

oli-mcburnie-sheffield-united

Bournemouth have largely struggled this season under the stewardship of newly-appointed boss Andoni Iraola but managed to secure a crucial three points away at relegation rivals Sheffield United.

Marcus Tavernier netted a brace and summer arrival Justin Kluivert scored his first Premier League goal after curling home a well-taken effort, having pounced on Wes Foderingham’s error.

The Blades scored a consolation goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time through the substitute Oli Mcburnie, who headed home George Baldock’s well-flighted cross.

12
Mario Lemina v Tottenham Hotspur – 90+7 mins

11th November 2023: Wolves 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur

mario-lemina-wolves-noha-lemina-transfer-news

The hosts netted two injury-time goals to come back from a goal behind.

Pablo Sarabia executed a superb touch and volley finish in the 91st minute before Mario Lemina, who came close earlier in the affair, stroked home the winner in the seventh minute of added time.

Gary O’Neil’s side rose to 11th with victory whilst the visitors picked up their second defeat of the season in successive fixtures, leaving them in third, two points adrift of the league leaders Manchester City.

Somehow, 97th-minute goals have become pretty standard with the new stoppage time initiative…

11
Nicolas Jackson v Tottenham Hotspur – 90+7 mins

6th November 2023: Tottenham Hotspur 1-4 Chelsea

nicolas-jackson-chelsea

Spurs were dealt their first league defeat of the season in a chaotic and fiery encounter against Chelsea in early November as Destiny Udogie and Cristian Romero were both shown red cards, reducing the hosts to nine men.

The mountainous task of keeping the 11 men of Chelsea at bay proved to be too difficult for Ange Potsecoglou’s side, who shipped three goals from the 75th minute onwards.

As legs began to tire, Nicolas Jackson came to the fore and netted his first Premier League hat-trick, with his final strike coming in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

The Senegalese forward coolly rounded Guglielmo Vicario before slotting home his sixth goal of the season.

10
Douglas Luiz v Brighton – 90+7 mins

30th September 2023: Aston Villa 6-1 Brighton and Hove Albion

douglas-luiz-aston-villa

Douglas Luiz features twice on his list, evincing Villa’s knack for a late goal this term. The West Midlanders thumped their European-chasing opposition 6-1 in their Saturday lunchtime clash and moved above them in the league table to fifth in the process.

Luiz’s well-taken finish in the 97th minute capped off a marvellous afternoon for the hosts, who have won five of their opening seven games.

Their bruising 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United in their opener now seems like a distant memory and certainly nothing more than a blip on Unai Emery’s fine record since taking over at Villa Park.

9
Scott McTominay v Brentford – 90+7 mins

7th October 2023: Manchester United 2-1 Brentford

scott-mctominay-man-utd

The hosts struck two stoppage-time goals to produce a dramatic late turnaround against the travelling Bees.

Scott McTominay entered the fray in the 87th minute and it didn’t take long for the Scotsman to make an impact, scoring the leveller in the third minute of added time.

And minutes later, with virtually the last action of the game, McTominay headed home the winner past Thomas Strakosha to send the Old Trafford crowd into raptures.

It was a much-needed victory for Erik ten Hag and his side, who took their tally to 12 points for the campaign, leaving them in 10th whilst Thomas Frank’s men remained in 14th on seven points.
